A little improvement from the standard romance. You can see by the lack of easy-flowing words and oh-so-common-changed-a-little plot that she's a beginner but she's an ok one. And if you find that you have something better to do is very easy to detach yourself from this one and come back a few weeks later.
I could argue that the sex scenes are not so hot or the chemistry so strong but they are a little better than the average and, in the end, if you want excellence you could pay the double for Hoyt or Kleypas. So here I arrive at the money. Overall, considering that I paid so little for it, I was content. I sometimes spent six times more for a book that made me angry so, if you even have big amounts of time dedicated to reading, this would be an acceptable choice.

I have to agree with Pen Pen the reviewer...this story was so-so.. The sex scenes were hot. I too liked the hero, but I really disliked the heroine. At the beginning she was OK but as the story progressed she just got more annoying.

Yes, this is a wallpaper romance, but it's of the type I like best. We know what the hero's feelings are right away. He wants his heroine, he loves her and wants to marry her and it doesn't take him long to know this. You don't spend the whole book with him being a jerk not knowing if he loves her. He was a delicious hero. She was a spinster from an abusive background. Her story is very real. Many people don't want to marry because they had a poor example of it as children.
I liked that he kept after her; however, he's not as alpha male as you think, as there is a bit of beta male in him too. He has his own fears and failings. He's not a bully, he just wants his woman. She can be a bit irritating. She can't seem to understand who the good guy is and who isn't... and it takes the whole book for her to find out the truth. This story could have been told in a better way than it was. It falls apart at times... still, the romantic scenes were good.
This book could have been a whole lot more, but the dialog is simplistic and we only scan the surface of the characters. We are just supposed to believe what their character is about, because the author tells us to and not because she sets in us any real deep understanding of them. The story may have been a lot more fun with more conflict in it. Banning and Avis had fought for 8 years and the author should have spent more time on that love/hate and less time on Avis and her agonizing over whether or not she ever wants to marry.
This could have been a fun and juicy chase to win the heroine, but what we get is bland.

I gave this book a three because of the weak female character. She was supposed to be this strong, independent woman who supported herself through her writing and refused to marry. Instead she is a weak, easily swayed woman who won't marry because she is afraid of her tainted blood. She supposedly writes to get away from the strict rules of society and yet she lets a jealous fellow author persuade her that no society woman would read her book because it's "improper." She's just too weak to be likeable. She was supposed to be strong, smart, and independent!

For an emerging author, this was a really good book. I will look forward to others.
